LE THESAURISEUR ET LE SINGE (2021) by French master Hervé Bonsard (b. 1963, France) is a satirical allegorical oil and mixed media painting reinterpreting Jean de La Fontaine’s fable of greed and vanity. Bonsard portrays the obsessive hoarder counting his wealth alongside the mischievous golden lion tamarin who scatters his gold coins into the sea.
Executed with rich umber and gold glazes, baroque chiaroscuro contrasts, and expressive modernist brushwork on vertical canvas, this painting offers a timeless meditation on material futility. An engaging conversational centerpiece for private libraries and executive suites.
